ウェールズの美しい丘陵地帯を舞台に繰り広げられたFIA欧州ラリー選手権（ERC）第6戦、JDS Machinery Rali Ceredigion 2026は、ドラマチックな展開が満載の3日間となりました。金曜日の夜間ステージから始まり、土曜日の大逆転、日曜日の王座決定まで、選手たちとマシン、観客が一体となった熱い戦いを振り返ります。
金曜日：夜間の激闘でスニネンが首位浮上
金曜日はアベリストウィス市街地のスーパースペシャル2本と、夜間のElerch、Blaenmelindwrの計4ステージが行われました。序盤はクリス・ミーク選手（Toyota GR Yaris Rally2）がペースを握り、SS1でアンドレア・マベリーニ選手とベストタイムを分け合い、SS2でリードを奪います。しかし夜間のElerch（SS3）でテーム・スニネン選手（Škoda Fabia RS Rally2）が2.5秒差をつける圧巻の走りを披露。続くSS4でも0.2秒差でベストを刻み、オーバーナイト首位に立ちました。差はわずか0.9秒。数千人のファンが見守る中、フィンランド人ドライバーが夜間ターマックの難しさを克服した瞬間でした。
スニネン選手は「本当に難しかった。クリスは素晴らしい仕事をしている。グリップを読むのに苦労したけど、だからこそ面白い。ERCはいつも誰かが高い基準を作ってくれるから好きなんだ」とコメント。一方、ミーク選手は「モンテカルロ以来の夜間ターマックだった。0.9秒差で終わるなんて最高のスタートだ」と興奮を隠せず、土曜日の攻防を予感させました。
ミコ・マルチク選手が3位、ヤクブ・マトゥルカ選手が4位と続き、マックス・マクレー選手はSS2のタイヤ問題やライトポッドのトラブルを乗り越え6位。オシアン・プライス選手やメイリオン・エヴァンス選手ら地元勢も上位を伺う展開となりました。
土曜日：ミークが主導権を握り、スニネンは王座を見据える
土曜日は朝のAberffrwdで一気に流れが変わります。スニネン選手がタイトな右コーナーでスピンを喫し10秒以上を失うと、ミーク選手がリードを11.9秒に拡大。SS6がキャンセルされた後、スニネン選手はSS7で5.7秒差をつける反撃を見せますが、その後の3本連続ステージウィンでミーク選手が差を19.4秒まで広げ、Aberystwythスーパースペシャルを終えて20.5秒差の首位で土曜日を終えました。
ミーク選手は「これまで走った中で最も楽しいターマックの一日だった。リズムの変化、バンプ、ジャンプ、テクニカルな部分、フラットアウト…すべてが素晴らしい。ToyotaとMichelinのパッケージが完璧だった」と大満足の様子。スニネン選手は「選手権を考えれば最高のポジションだ。ミークと競えたのは光栄だけど、追うより自分のペースを守ることにした」と冷静に語り、タイトルに焦点を絞った走りを選択しました。
3位にマルチク選手、4位マトゥルカ選手、5位マクレー選手と続き、地元のプライス選手が6位に浮上。マベリーニ選手は7位に後退し、タイトル争いの観点からスニネン選手に有利な状況が生まれました。ピエール・ラグ選手のスピンリタイアやサム・トゥゼル選手のクラッシュなど、リタイア組も出る厳しい一日でした。
日曜日：ミークが初優勝、スニネンが2014年以来のフィンランド人王者に
最終日は4ステージ、63.80kmの戦い。オーバーナイトリーダーのミーク選手が2本でベストタイムを刻み、リードを守り切りました。スニネン選手は日曜日朝にもオーバーシュートがありましたが、ポジションを落とさず2位をキープ。最終的に38.6秒差でフィニッシュし、パワーステージも制してタイトルを決めました。
スニネン選手は「水曜日は体調が悪くてこのペースで走れるとは思わなかった。でも良い仕事ができた。シーズン全体として良い結果で、ターマックでも多くを学んだ」と喜びに満ちたコメント。ミーク選手は「本当に素晴らしい週末だった。パッケージが合えばこんなに楽しいんだと再確認した。Michelinのタイヤでまた『家に帰った』ような感覚になれた」と初のERC登録ドライバーとしての勝利を噛みしめました。
これによりスニネン選手はエサペッカ・ラッピ選手（2014年）以来のフィンランド人ERC王者となり、最終戦を残してタイトルを確定。ミーク選手はERCイベントでの初勝利を、しかもToyota GR Yaris Rally2のターマック初勝利として飾りました。
最終総合ではマルチク選手が3位、マクレー選手が自己最高の4位、地元のエヴァンス選手が5位と健闘。マベリーニ選手は6位、エリック・カイス選手が7位、シモーネ・テンペスティーニ選手が8位と続きました。ERC3ではヴィレ・ヴァタネン選手がタイトルを決め、ERC4／ジュニアではティモ・シュルツ選手が勝利を挙げて最終戦でのタイトル決定戦に望みをつなぎました。
ERC4およびJunior ERCでは、Lancia Corse HFの若手勢が健闘を見せました。セバスチャン・ダッラピッコラ／サムエレ・ペッレグリーノ組が4位、フランチェスコ・デイ・チェーチ／ダイアナ・ダルデーリ組が5位と、いずれもトップ5に入り、シーズンを通じた成長を確認する結果となりました。一方、シーズン序盤にRally di Roma Capitaleで勝利し首位に立っていたダヴィデ・ペサヴェント／アレッシオ・アンジェリ組は序盤でリタイアし、タイトル争いから脱落しています。
地元勢の活躍や夜のステージ、スピンとリカバリー、タイトル争いの駆け引きと、ウェールズらしい熱くドラマチックなラリーとなりました。次戦は10月23-25日にポルトガル・ファフェで開催される最終戦Rally Six Cities North of Portugalです。
• クリス・ミーク（Toyota GR Yaris Rally2）：金曜日夜のリード争いから土曜日に一気に主導権を握り、最終日も堅実に初優勝。5度のWRCイベント勝者らしい経験が光りました。「パッケージが合えば仕事が楽になる」とのコメント通り、Michelinタイヤとの相性の良さが勝利の鍵でした。
• テーム・スニネン（Škoda Fabia RS Rally2）：金曜日夜に首位を奪取するも土曜日のスピンで後退。タイトルを優先した冷静な走りで2位を守り、パワーステージも制して王座を決めました。
• ミコ・マルチク（Škoda Fabia RS Rally2）：安定した走りで3位を確保。ディフェンディングチャンピオンとして最後まで上位をキープしました。
• マックス・マクレー（Škoda Fabia RS Rally2）：金曜日のトラブルを乗り越え、自己最高の4位フィニッシュ。英国選手権勢として存在感を示しました。

JDS Machinery Rali Ceredigion 2026 Final Classification（添付最終結果より）
The JDS Machinery Rali Ceredigion 2026, round six of the FIA European Rally Championship, delivered three days of high drama across the scenic hills of Wales. From the night stages on Friday through a dramatic shift in momentum on Saturday to the title-clinching finale on Sunday, the event produced a compelling contest between the drivers, their cars and the passionate crowds.
Friday: Suninen seizes the lead under the lights
Friday featured two runs of the Aberystwyth town-centre super special followed by the night-time tests of Elerch and Blaenmelindwr. Kris Meeke (Toyota GR Yaris Rally2) set the early pace, sharing the fastest time on SS1 with Andrea Mabellini and then taking the outright lead on SS2. However, Teemu Suninen (Škoda Fabia RS Rally2) produced a sensational performance on the night stages. He was 2.5 seconds quicker than Meeke through Elerch (SS3) and added another stage win on Blaenmelindwr (SS4) by 0.2 seconds, ending the day 0.9 seconds ahead overnight.
Suninen described the stages as “super-difficult” and praised the intensity of the battle, noting how much he enjoys the high standards set by rivals on ERC events. Meeke, competing on tarmac in the dark for the first time since Monte-Carlo 2019, called it “mega” and said the 0.9-second gap after four stages left him buzzing for the days ahead.
Mikołaj Marczyk held third, Jakub Matulka fourth, while Max McRae recovered from a deflating tyre on SS2 and a loose light pod on SS4 to finish sixth. Local drivers Osian Pryce and Meirion Evans also featured in the top-ten battle.
Saturday: Meeke takes control while Suninen focuses on the title
Saturday began with a decisive swing on the 12.02-kilometre Aberffrwd stage. Suninen spun exiting a tight right-hander after 4.49 km and dropped more than ten seconds, allowing Meeke to surge into a lead of 11.9 seconds. Although SS6 was cancelled for safety reasons, Suninen responded strongly on the long 20.71-kilometre SS7, going 5.7 seconds faster than Meeke. Three consecutive stage wins from Meeke then stretched the advantage to 19.4 seconds, and after the closing pair of Aberystwyth super specials he held a 20.5-second overnight lead.
Meeke described it as “one of the most enjoyable days of tarmac rallying” he had ever experienced, praising the variety of the stages and the perfect package of the Toyota and Michelin tyres. Suninen, meanwhile, chose not to chase the leader at all costs, explaining that second place put him exactly where he needed to be for the championship.
Marczyk remained third, Matulka fourth and McRae fifth, with Pryce climbing to sixth ahead of Mabellini. Retirements included Pierre Ragues after a high-speed spin and Sam Touzel following a crash on SS5.
Sunday: Meeke claims maiden ERC win as Suninen becomes champion
Sunday’s four stages covering 63.80 km decided both the rally and the title. Overnight leader Meeke set the pace on two of the tests and controlled the gap to the finish. Suninen suffered another overshoot on Sunday morning but recovered without losing position and eventually finished 38.6 seconds behind Meeke. By taking maximum points on the Power Stage he secured the 2026 FIA European Rally Championship title with one round remaining – the first Finnish champion since Esapekka Lappi in 2014.
Suninen reflected that he had been unwell earlier in the week and was surprised by the pace they managed, calling it a successful season overall. Meeke celebrated his first ERC victory as a registered driver and the first tarmac win for the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 in the series, saying the package had allowed him to “feel at home again.”
Marczyk completed the podium in third. Max McRae achieved a career-best fourth, while local driver Meirion Evans finished as the top Welsh competitor in fifth. Andrea Mabellini, Suninen’s closest title rival, took sixth. Ville Vatanen sealed the ERC3 title, and Timo Schulz won both ERC4 and Junior ERC categories to set up a final-round showdown.
The weekend combined night-time intensity, critical spins and recoveries, and a carefully managed championship battle, producing a classic ERC contest on the demanding Welsh asphalt. The season finale takes place on the gravel roads of Rally Six Cities North of Portugal from 23–25 October.
